  • July 8th, 2007 - Dave Thomas brings BALF to Rochester, NY introducing it as a recreational sport.

  • September 14th, 2005 - Greg Schuster, Eric Kraemer best Rob Bergman and (Clatmaster) Mark Schuster and 5-4, setting a record for clatting average at Frosty Valley with an .888.

  • June 25th, 2004 - Bob Kitchenmaster & Mark Clause discuss BALF to fans in Puerto Rico, birthplace of Roberto Clemente.

  • September 15, 2003 - Aaron Fogal bests league champ Bob Kitchenmaster to win (5-4) the North Links championship.

  • September 6-7, 2003 Iron Man Jim Christiano completes Pittsburgh league in a little over a day, winning all six games, including a course record tying 44.

  • September 4, 2003 BALF receives largest order in history.  Balf to become 'sport of choice' near Billings, MT.  League to begin within a year.

  • July 1, 2003 - BALF gains acceptance into Western Pennsylvania Sports museum as "Future of Sport".  Grand opening is scheduled for October, 2004.

  • August 4, 2002 - John Written III, key component of the sports growth from infancy, dies at home, leaving behind wife Barbara and children John IV, Sarah and Lenny.

  • May 11, 2002 - First Night BALF played.  BALFers Mark & Greg Schuster, playing along with Dan Ruffing & Rob Geiger win the 2002 Rotary event at Frosty Valley Golf Links with a 6 under par 30.  

  • September 10, 2001 - Minnesota Tournament won by John Written IV & Chris Heminover at 7 under.

  • July 21, 2001 - BBC Interview worldwide.  Michael Finney of Scotland  & announcers discuss BALF during British Open live on BBC and Internet.

  • October 22nd, 2000 - John Written IV of Mankato, MN wins the 2nd World Series in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.

  • September 14th, 2000 - John Written III & Aaron Fogal win the 6th Annual Midwest Classic for diabetes in Minnesota.  Tournament sets record for donations - $5000, and longest continuous event in Balf history (6th year).

  • July 24th, 2000 - New Worlds Record ! John Written IV shoots a 42 at North Links.  Beats the old record shared by himself and two others by two strokes.

  • May 7th, 2000 - 2nd annual Spring Swing held at Golf Gardens in Destin, Fl.  Rick Alsen and Ed Wise defend their title beating Tony and Tanner Miller by one stroke.

  • March 17th, 2000 - Balf challenges Golf at Feathersound CC in St. Petersburg, FL against the Major League alumnus.  Final score of 75 is 14 strokes behind Ron Robinson's (Reds/Brewers) 5-some.  Other MLA include Ferguson Jenkins, Mudcat Grant & 'Goose' Gossage.

  • October 2nd, 1999 - John Written IV of Mankato, MN wins the 1st ever World Series of Balf -played among the league winners - with a score of 193 for 36 holes (47-54-46-46).  He easily outdistances Mark Schuster (Pittsburgh) and Tony Miller (Florida) who tied for 2nd with 209.   

  • September 13th, 1999 - Jim Christiana & Mark Schuster trash 2 person scramble record with a 74 at North Links in Mankato MN.    Ex-major leaguer Ron Robinson and Dave Thomas finish 2nd with an 80.

  • August 28, 1999 - The Mayoral Challenge - mayors and council members of 10 barrier 'cities' meet at Treasure Island in Tampa for bragging rights.

  • May 24, 1999 - Clasters V rained out.  First rainout in Balf history.  Balfers donate their 'rainout fee' to the American Cancer Society.   $3000 largest donation in the sports history.

  • April, 1999 - BALField scores big hit at the Major League Alumnus tournament at Feathersound in Ft. Lauderdale.   Longest drive: Goose Gossage bests Von Hayes by 25 yards - estimated at 225 yards !

  • January, 1999 - Balf hits Gulf Coast.  Tony Miller/Rick Alsen of Destin, FL begin GCBA(Gulf Coast Balf Association) and within weeks hold 1st Florida tournament.

  • October, 1998 - Public radio broadcasts Balf interview nationwide.

  • September, 1998 - Midwest Tournament at North Links sets records for attendance, sponsorship, donations and scores - Kris Brenke & Josh Kirby tie John Written & Aaron Fogal with a 79.  Tiebreaker goes to the 3rd hole - Kris & Josh emerge victorious.

  • July, 1998 - Balf appears in Kid City - Children's Television Workshop.

  • June, 1998 - Balf invited to US Open in San Francisco. Appear on NBC affiliate KRON with Will Selvo.  Viewed by 1.6 million viewers.

  • June 1, 1998 - BALF.com launched

  • May 18, 1998 - Bob Bowman shatters Clasters record with an 87.

  • March, 1998 - Balf played with Major League Baseball Alumni Association at Feathersound Golf Course in St. Petersburg.  Brooks Robinson, Tug McGraw, Goose Gossage, Ferguson Jenkins & others participate.

  • February, 1998 - Balf featured at the Midwest Golf Show - Minneapolis Metrodome.

  • November, 1997 - Balf hits the US Air Publication Attaché - Author Todd Balf !

  • September, 1997 - Bob Kitchenmaster/Tom Anderson win Midwest Regional at North Links CC with a record 84.

  • August, 1997 - Minnesota launches Balf into State Park & Recreation Association, the Minnesota Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance.  Balf also being offered as a part of a high school phys-ed course - "Life-time Sports & Fitness"

  • July 1997 - Bob Keir introduces Balf to Ireland.

  • June 1997 - Pittsburgh lands 1st course - Frosty Valley (Dan Ruffing)

  • June 1997 - Heartland, USA features Balf - written by Angela Pirisi

  • May 19, 1997 - John Byers breaks century mark with a 99 at Clasters III - Shannopin CC, Pittsburgh

  • April 21, 1997 - Balf article appears in Barrons Magazine - by Eric Savitz.

  • December, 1996 - 'Clatmaster' Mark Schuster appears on CNN FN in New York Studios.

  • November, 1996 - Jack Hillerich of Hillerich and Bradsby displays prototype of fiberglass finish on Clat drivers.  Eventually proves to eliminate splintering.

  • September, 1996 - Photo finish at the Midwest Regional in Mankato.   Five two-somes finish within 2 strokes.  Aaron Fogal/Mark Clouse grab honors with a 90.

  • August, 1996 - 1st ever league results - John Written/Mark Clouse of North Links tie with 28 points each.  John Written wins playoff for the regular season bragging rights with a 58, beating Bob Kitchenmaster by 1.

  • July, 1996 - Balf Tournament held at Woodlake CC in Toms River NJ.   Toms River coaches Paul Baranowski, Mitch Powitz, Dr. Chris Lauria and Ken Frank shoot an 82.

  • July, 1996 - Balf receives great review in Golf Journal, the official USGA magazine.  Article by Gary Fallesen.

  • May 20, 1996 - Deb Nordstrom defends Woman's title at Clasters(130). Tim Bannon crowned champion(114).

  • April, 1996 - Swing Magazine shows full size picture of (then) amateur Tiger Woods and the Balfclats.  Photo seems to help accelerate both.

  • March, 1996 - North Links CC, Mankato MN becomes first authorized Balf Center.

  • February, 1996 - Mary Kitchenmaster introduces BALFgear™ merchandise.

  • December, 1995 - Balf gets great write-up in Tee Time Magazine. (author Gerry Dulac).

  • November, 1995 - Balf hits internet with AOL home page.

  • September 11, 1995 - 1st Midwest Regional played at North Links CC.   Derek Woodley, Craig Fritz, Ryan Weller & Eric Casteel combine for a 75.

  • September 10, 1995 - 1st official nine-inning game played between Bob Kitchenmaster, Tom Anderson and Mark Schuster at North Links CC in Mankato, MN.

  • August, 1995 - Bob Kitchenmaster named 1st President of BALField.

  • July, 1995 - Balfclat® becomes registered trademark.

  • May 22, 1995 - Jim Christiano wins the Clasters at Shannopin CC - Pittsburgh PA.  It is the first time Balf is played as a group.  Sunny, 76 degrees and perfect. 

  • April 11th, 1995 - H&B Clats used for 1st time with Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Brian O'Neill

  • March, 1995 - Balf hits "Vogue" magazine.

  • February, 1995 - Tournament set at Shannopin CC, thanks to Rick Hager & Tim Jugovic.

  • November 5,1994 - 1st meeting with Jack Hillerich (Hillerich & Bradsby - home of Louisville Slugger). Jack develops first H&B prototype.

  • October 25, 1994 - Clatmaster does on-air live on BBC radio - London (Colin Maitland).

  • October 13, 1994 - Associated Press Sends Balf around the world.   (Mike Haddigan/Gene Puskar)

  • October 20, 1994 - Balf hits KDKA in Pittsburgh(John Corby)

  • September 2, 1994 - Balf hits Wall St. Journal(Tom Lauricella)

  • July 13, 1994 - 1st Newspaper article - Carnegie Signal Item(Chuck Curti)

  • July 5th, 1994 - 1st TV airing - Alby Oxenreiter - WTAE, Pittsburgh.

  • May 30th, 1994 - Balf played 1st time - Crafton Golf Club, Pittsburgh, PA

  • December, 1993 - first "Clat" manufactured by Brian O'Carroll of Glenview IL.
